[00:00:34] RON: finding your who, and it's your message attracting the right who
[00:00:39] CORY: that's right. Ron, I love this conversation because we thought we had the right people coming to us. And then for some reason we didn't know, we didn't know what was going on, but multiple people in a row. were the exact wrong person to work with us, but they just kept coming. They just kept coming and we didn't [00:01:00] know why until we truly sat down and we're like, what is happening?
[00:01:06] RON: Yeah. it was a perfect example of, you may not know exactly what you want, but you do know what you don't want. That's okay. It was a perfect example of that
[00:01:16] CORY: on a side note. Isn't that always easy? Is to know exactly what you don't want. Like that's how you're like, Nope. Don't like that check don't like that don't like that, but it's sometimes harder to find exactly what you do want. So,
[00:01:29] RON: absolutely.
[00:01:31] CORY: So just why is it so important to understand who are you attracting? And like, just, if you want to tell the story of there's the certain set of people that we don't work with.
[00:01:43] RON: No I'm not gonna I can do it vaguely. How about that? I can sum it up. Like this life is way too short to do things you don't want to do and be around people. You don't want to be around period. And [00:02:00] if you find yourself in a position that your message is bringing people into your world, that you are not happy time to switch a message, switch your mindset. Right? Cause we haven't even hardly switched our message. Sat down and said, I can't do it. I don't want this type of person anymore. We were attracting people that wanted to coach us, but wanted us to coach them. Right.
[00:02:27] CORY: Right. They wanted to pay us to let them coach us.
[00:02:32] RON: Right. Which made no sense. It made no sense. And it was frustrating because again, you find out who that can help you do something. Period. And that who should be the subject matter expert that you listened to, to accomplish what it was you're trying to accomplish. That is not what was happening. It was like, I remember when I was like, I'm over it. I was like, what do you want it to do? What he wanted to look like? Give me an [00:03:00] example. They sent it did to me, I sent it right back. I said, you're done. Here you go. And the comment was, well, that's what I sent. Yeah. But that's what you're going to be happy with. So. we're moving on.
[00:03:10] CORY: Yeah. It's I just want to go with people. Hopefully can walk away from here in this episode with an action step. And I think the first step that people need to take, if they're attracting the wrong people is they need to understand their avatar. And it goes back to understand your avatar to such a degree. That I guarantee everything you create from there, the message will speak to that avatar and not to the person that you don't want
[00:03:41] RON: truth.
[00:03:41] CORY: Right. But then the second part of that is you could be like us and you could just, you consciously make the decision. Of there's a certain type of person you will not work with. And you've got to put it out in the universe. Right. We put it out in the universe to each other, and it's weird because it, [00:04:00] that type of person, like, I know I don't want to bash anybody, but I promise Ron and I have a specific career professional person that we will not work with, but we only talk about it with each other. And we put that out there. We didn't really change anything else in that person, that type of person that never came back to us, but we had three of them. We had three clients that had this exact same profession and
[00:04:28] RON: four there was four, or back to back to back to back.
[00:04:31] CORY: And One of them. Like, I almost got a fight with, I mean, come on. It was bad
[00:04:37] RON: one I did get in a fight with and she loves us and gives us kudos all the time.
[00:04:41] CORY: Yeah I liked that one, but I just a person, you have to put it out there. Right. you Are in business for yourself to be able to work with people you want to work with. Right. Whether it's a client, whether it's an employee, whether it is a contractor, people, you do business [00:05:00] with people like we're all in this week. I don't work with people we like, and we enjoy, and we want to spend time with, because if you're not, you're doing it wrong. Right. So. Put it out there. You've got to consciously understand, like, if there's somebody, a type of person, that type of client that is just driving you up a wall, you've got to make that choice that draw the line in the sand. And I will not work with X person again, X type of person again. And I'll tell you.. If you draw that line in the sand and you understand who you're talking to you'll the right person who will come to you.
[00:05:35] RON: Agreed, agreed. And I'll say right now, that's just another one of those things. I didn't quite believe like super transparent, right? For us not to change messaging to the world, just a realization between you and I, and for those people to stop coming and we get the right people to come. That's crazy that's crazy.
[00:05:55] CORY: Yup. Yup. All right. I mean, I know this one is a quick one, [00:06:00] and again, if you guys need help with understanding your avatar, because if you truly want to make sure that you're attracting the right people, you've got to understand who you want to attract. That's the best way. That's the easiest way. It's the quickest way. To getting the right clients and the right people in your world, or you can be like us and just make that, draw that line in the sand. But I promise you, it's probably not as quick as getting the avatar right there.
