Episode Transcription

[00:00:00] CORY: Welcome to the impactors podcast. I'm Cory Carter

[00:00:04] RON: and I'm Ron. Cool.

[00:00:05] CORY: And we are the owners and founders of hindsight hacking media agency, podcast, funnels, graphics, and more head on over to get hhm.com to learn more

[00:00:15] RON: guys, we created this podcast to help you go create an impact today. Not tomorrow, not yesterday. Today. We're taking all the fluff, all the BS out, so you can go create an impact.

[00:00:32] CORY: And today's topic is

[00:00:33] RON: alright again, expert secrets week. We are now on experts, secrets, number seven, the epiphany bridge.

[00:00:43] CORY: That's right. Ron, this is funnest thing cause I'm a horrible storyteller. And so like this is the first time that I really started paying attention to how. I talked in regards to the stories that I told. And so it was the first time I really understood it. [00:01:00] I understood what I needed to do. And it's the starting point of this. When people buy, they either buy two ways, right. They buy logically or emotionally. And most of the time there's a little of each in both that. Right.

[00:01:11] RON: Right.

[00:01:11] CORY: And so I love your explanation of the epiphany bridge. So tell the audience, what is the epiphany bridge?

[00:01:22] RON: Uh, it's a great way to get people to where you are by telling a story to having the person, listening to the story, to have the same epiphany in their world that you had in your world without telling them your apifany or telling them to have one

[00:01:40] CORY: that's right. So you had to connect with them, like you sell something on the logical standpoint in regards to like, oh, I've got all these features and little things. Yeah. Right. And that's like, Hey, I spent 10 grand and I'm going to go tell my wife. I spent 10 grand. I need to have all the logical aspects to explain to her of why it's a good idea.[00:02:00]

[00:02:00] RON: Right.

[00:02:00] CORY: But what get got me to buy that 10, you know, spend that 10 grand is the story, the emotional connection that, that went through it that put me in the shoes of said story teller. Right. And a lot of ways to do that is the simple phrase. To get people in your shoes, the simple phrase to get people to understand. And that is kind of like,

[00:02:24] RON: I know like

[00:02:25] CORY: the kind of like, right, like if you're telling the story and then people don't quite get it. Well, it's kind of like X, right?

[00:02:33] RON: Here's how I started explaining that Cory. Right? If you have a Hershey's bar and the jar of peanut butter and you dip the Hershey bar into the jar of peanut butter, it's kind of like a recess, but it's not. I just kind of like, but you now visually see a Reese's peanut butter cup in your head. Right. And it makes you want one because I want one now

[00:02:53] CORY: only if you're crazy and you like chocolate, but

[00:02:56] RON: oh yea you don't like chocolate,

[00:02:57] CORY: I don't like chocolate. So you're taking people from what they [00:03:00] understand. You say it's kind of like, right. Like people understand the Reese's, but you want to get the chocolate bar and peanut butter. So it's kind of like to the new concept.

[00:03:08] RON: Right, right. I'm going to totally go off script and subject altogether,

[00:03:13] CORY: uh, oh

[00:03:14] RON: altogether, because this is money. Did you watch football last night?

[00:03:19] CORY: No.

[00:03:20] RON: Okay. Well, there was a Tom Brady commercial.

[00:03:23] CORY: Okay.

[00:03:24] RON: And it was modeled after a cologne. Okay. Okay. So it's him looking all Tom Brady sexy, right? Half his face, dark in a suit and there's cologne and he's like spraying it. And when he sprays it, it says bready because it's a subway.

[00:03:42] CORY: Okay.

[00:03:43] RON: And it's about bread. And at the end, what was brilliant about it? He's smelling the bread. He's just smelling it and goes, I could smell it. I can almost taste it. And then there's another voice. The lady from subway that goes, but you don't eat. And that's how the commercial ends. Right. [00:04:00] So it was kind of like this cologne commercial, but it was hilarious. Cause we know Tom Brady doesn't eat bread, right?

[00:04:07] CORY: Yeah.

[00:04:08] RON: But he was selling a bread commercial for subway.

[00:04:12] CORY: Oh, that's funny. Yeah. Some commercials really get ya on the story

[00:04:15] RON: sorry. Sorry. I had, I had to totally go off script.

[00:04:18] CORY: It is it's the epiphany. Someone had an epiphany like, oh, I can still enjoy subway. If I don't like bread, I can still enjoy the smells. If I don't like the bread. That's kind of what I got from your side of that. Right?

[00:04:29] RON: Yeah, exactly.

[00:04:30] CORY: So, anyway, it's so funny. Like the best sales folks are the best stories. Right, right. But I guarantee they're using some kind of epiphany bridge because easier sell is when you basically tell a story and somebody pictures themselves in that story.

[00:04:52] RON: Right. Yeah. And Catherine Jones does it the best

[00:04:55] CORY: Catherine Jones. I mean, even Steve, Steve Larson,

[00:04:58] RON: Steve Larson does a good job.

[00:04:59] CORY: Got [00:05:00] you ready to buy a book.

[00:05:01] RON: He got me ready to buy a book from a story that didn't make it, like he made the story to get everyone to understand how to tell a story. And then while everyone was about to buy this book and we talked about it on our Hindsight Hacking show with him specifically. Like he, I remember he was like, don't go by the book. I totally made it up. But you were so enthralled in the story and how it helped him get to where he was. you wanted to buy the book. I don't buy books and I was ready to buy this book.

[00:05:28] CORY: Yeah. All right. So the moral of this conversation today, if you want to make your life easier with sales, figure out the stories that take one person from what they understand. To what they need to understand that the new opportunity and you can use a simple transition. Like it's kind of like,

[00:05:49] RON: it's kinda like so no fluff, no BS. It's kinda like impact. Go make some, thank you so much for listening to
