[00:00:54] Welcome back to hindsight hacking, and today's a very special guest. She's going to raise the bar [00:01:00] for us, Ron and I, we might need to we might need to step up our game a little bit because one of the only Ms. Lisa Mannette is on with us. Now, if you've ever wanted to improve your video, live video camera skills, if you've ever wanted to get more clients, Then have a voice coach growth strategists, strategists who specializes in helping you create authentic Facebook live video coaching. And, you know, I bet you, if it, if it's taught on Facebook translate. Instagram and LinkedIn and anywhere else that you probably want to be live. And in, on your social media platforms the great. Lisa, I tell you this from experience, she brings the energy when she is teaching. And it was so amazing that I had to have her on our show. So without further ado, Lisa, welcome to the show.
[00:01:56] LISA: Hey guys. Thank you. Thank you for inviting me,
[00:01:59] RON: [00:02:00] Lisa. We are so stoked to have you, cause obviously we do a lot of things live and we are on said camera. So before we get to. Why don't you give a little bit more of a backstory about you and kind of how you got where you are.
[00:02:12] LISA: Oh, I love it. Don't you love when someone asks you tell us your story. Do you have a minute? Do you have an hour? You have two weeks for me to tell them what got you here in one sentence. You know, it's a great question because you know what the answer is. Freedom. Freedom of expression is what got me here. I was born in Hollywood. I grew up in Los Angeles, took dancing, was going to be an ice skater. And the coach can told my parents, you know, your daughter could go to the Olympics, but my parents were working. They both worked my mother on beauty salons. My dad was with the LAPD and they were like, oh, she doesn't need to stay in skating. So I think as a little girl, I'm going, wait a minute, wait a minute. I want to be with this cool coach, but I continued to dance. And then I did a lot of different things, but the point of it was how can we have more expression? And because I'm from LA, I [00:03:00] grew up with people, everybody was an actor. Everybody was going to acadamy awards. Everybody, you know, it's like, okay. So what who's, what's something interesting about creativity. So I worked in Beverly Hills as a hairdresser of a top person. We did a bunch of celebrities and stuff when I was in my twenties. And then I said, as any 20 year old would go, well, I want to do something different. And then I left and just left this amazing job career and went to be a flight attendant. So I flew all over the world, lived in Hawaii. I don't know I'm singing it. I'm singing my song to you guys. But I lived in Hawaii. Continue to take down. Continued to discover the world and freedom and little did. I know that, you know, a part of me was just starting to be like, I don't really want a boss. There's no boss on the airline. I used to feel like I own the airline. We were treating people so beautifully. And then one day after I had a baby living in Hawaii, the airlines started to shrink a little bit about how much money you could make. This was way back. This is not like now where it's, you know, scary. Somebody turned me on to [00:04:00] direct sales and I got into Mary Kay cosmetics. Quit the airline. Here I go. Again. Another thing I get into Mary Kay, and I'm again, I just a student, I love the student. I love this freedom. So I want to Cadillac. I had a pink Cadillac. I had, I did almost a million dollars in sales and taught people how to be free. But then I got introduced to this tall dude and his name was Tony Robbins. Have you heard of Tony?
[00:04:23] RON: We may have heard. Cory actually may have just listened to like a seven hour speech of Mr. Tony Robbins last week
[00:04:30] CORY: Yeah, in person live.
[00:04:32] LISA: Oh, What did you think about it? Was he be great for you.
[00:04:35] CORY: Oh yeah. Well it's the second time we've seen him at funnel hacking live and
[00:04:38] LISA: Oh, he did funnel hacking live. Yeah, I saw Pedro,Adao was there. I did coaching with Pedro Adao to
[00:04:44] CORY: Oh, Pedro. I came back. I didn't know anything about Pedro. And, Pedro was my absolute favorite. Like I got back and I'm like, Ron We need to get involved with Pedro, with whatever he's doing, because it is his gold. So, but yeah, [00:05:00] Tony was awesome. He way over delivered, like he was planned to speak for three and a half hours and it went seven. So it was, it was crazy.
[00:05:07] LISA: You know What Corey, I have a t-shirt in my closet somewhere when I worked with Tony. I did get the date with destiny at the L'Auberge Hotel. Hotel. In Del Mar we Had he had a castle we called it. It was a house that had a castle looking thing in it, but there was 95 people in the room, 95. Now he has 95,000 and it was amazing. And they picked me, it was a little group, but in those days they go, well, we want to hand pick people to be on our crew. The next time or staff and his wife, Becky, his first wife, Becky, she goes, Tony wants you to be on this, you know, on our group, so they brought me back and then I went to their a firewalk up in San Francisco. They said, oh, you can do the firewalk too. And so he gave me a beautiful momentum and just so Tony, what's interesting when I started to work with Tony and this was part of answering your story, tell me your backstory, because it's really is interesting. Tony's way of thinking. Just had me expand on [00:06:00] even more. So not only did I win this Cadillac, Mary Kay. I was speaking all over. People would come up and we'd go, are you related to Tony Robbins? Like you guys seem alike and he wasn't that famous. And then it was way back. But it was funny. So he was just, the point is when we can have ways to be freed up, that's the point, this energy holding back a lot of people. And so that is part of my backstory. And to tell you the truth well, you know. Speeding it forward. I ended up being with cosmetic companies. I left Mary Kay. I worked for Chanel and did a lot of different things. Breakdown and just a lot of weird stuff, but then finally a woman named Shaylene Johnson. I don't know if you guys know Shaylene. Oh, you don't see. There you go. Have you ever dropped a name of someone? Really huge and somebody shakes their head. They go, no, I don't know who you're talking about. You don't you don't know Frank Carnez like, you don't know who Brendan Brushard is. You'll say you'll drop some, the guy I was with this group of guys and they're like, oh, We're all with Sean Wayland [00:07:00] I'm like I don't know who he is. You don't know who he is. I'm like, okay, there we go. There's no competition. Anyway, she was a body trainer for 24 hour fitness and she met Brendan Brushard 10 years ago. And she also would put Beachbody on the map for a lot of reasons, but she invited me. I was taken out of the pop class. I used to take dancing all the time. And so Brendan Brushard. I started to go to his events all the time. I started networking and then I met my mentor of celebrity voice coach named Roger Love. Roger Love is, oh God, Brendan's coach Tony's coach. I just a ton of celebrities on television. It just, you know, it was like, I want to help people besides, makeup, you know, because I was a makeup artist, but here's the bottom line of that. So last year, right when the pandemic started. So I love video, right? I've been around the video, producers act all this stuff forever. So I see this guy on the beach and a little ad and I go, he's awful on the camera. He's throwing the ball. He doesn't look at the camera. He's going he's talking like this. And he says, I'm not anybody. I'm not anybody famous. You guys don't know me and I'm [00:08:00] going, yeah, you're just awful on the camera. But his video guy, what's his name? Oh God, I forgot his name. Um, anyway, he's big now his editing was really cool. It was like orange frame. You know, this was a minute and it was Pedro Adao and he says, and I joined his challenge model and that's where I met the challenge Queens. And then I started doing challenges and that was a year ago. It's the first time I really monetize with something that made sense so that's where I am today, that's how I met you through a challenge. Tada!
[00:08:30] CORY: So crazy. This is the world is small. It's so fun. So now, you know, so there's so many amazing things I want to unpack there, but since we ended there with the challenge aspects, uh let's let's just dive in. You've got the ten x live video challenge, right? Like what is it? It's a five day.
[00:08:48] LISA: Yea I do it's called come alive. No, it's okay. I have, I have like three or four different programs. I have a group on Facebook. That's called the come alive on camera tribe. And that's where I hold my challenges and [00:09:00] workshops and Tenex trainings and that kind of stuff.
[00:09:03] CORY: Perfect, So five days, sorry, Ron, I'm interrupting you but five days. And is it like, I hit the button and I do, I can join today or is it like once a month you do these or how does that work?
[00:09:14] LISA: No. Well, you, know what's funny. I do a variety of different things. One time I did five days. I'm about to do a new one. That's going to be three days. I feel like a lot of people's attention span is starting to get. And yesterday, I don't know when this will air, but at the time in history, Facebook shut down yesterday.
[00:09:32] RON: Seven hours.
[00:09:33] LISA: Do you guys remember that horror movie? It was like an old, like fifties movies of the day. The earth stood still. Honest to God. Did you not a little bit go, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. You know,
[00:09:45] RON: you knew when it came up cause you got like 9,000 notifications.
[00:09:49] LISA: Well, no, but see, I woke up in the morning, like an idiot turning on my phone, which they teach you in the Tony Robbins training. Don't do that if you're priming, you know, but here I am, I go and I go [00:10:00] and it's freezing and I go, oh, Facebook doesn't like me. Oh, I'm in Facebook jail. Oh, it's my building. I started testing TVs, things that. Here we go and I Googled Facebook having a problem. And then on good old Google boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. You know what I'm like. Oh, okay. I'm okay.
[00:10:16] RON: Yeah, no, absolutely. All right. So you got this challenge, you got people going through it. What is like one of the biggest things you see when people get on this camera? Like, I think I know what the answer is, but what do you see that you're like, stop doing that.
[00:10:30] LISA: What, what do I see that I tell people to stop doing something. Oh God. How long do you have. There's a lot of stuff
[00:10:37] CORY: Your top three top thing,
[00:10:39] LISA: top three is they are deer in the headlight a lot. Like they're not grounded. They're kind of like, okay, I'm going live right now. Like I'm staring at, you know, or they're not seeing the lens, like looking at the lens is always hard for a lot of people. I mean, I do look at you guys right now because we're in the room. I'm looking at you, but then I'll know. Go back to actually looking [00:11:00] at you. That's one, people just don't look in the mirror. Number two, they don't get grounded. They don't get grounded prepared. You know, it's probably a little about Tony Robbins and Brendon and Roger and all the people that I've worked with and trained with I've done major transformation trainings, and it's like, you got Yourself so up, you've got to change that state. You can't just go straight to camera, especially if you're not a pro I mean, people get that are pros. They get paid to read teleprompters and be this and that, but that's not what we're trying to get. We're trying to get getting grounded and getting right in there and being excited. People sometimes they're just all, you know, held in it. And that's why I love coaching because I get I'm known for pulling people out more and have more freedom. There's that word again freedom to come out. And I think three is their voice. You have to have volume. You've got to have levels. I always joke about the Kardashians and some of the, you know, oh, I don't know, reality show or anybody speaking where nowadays they start to [00:12:00] mumble. They're talking because they're authentic and they just want to talk to here. They're not breathing. They're not breathing at all. I mean, you can talk a low pitch. You can talk a high pitch, but you better not just grab this one thing. That's just always down here. So I'm always shaking people up to go or it's like, I want to be authentic. Like, no, just authentic could be disgustingly boring or you could be upset and really in your head. That's another one. Bonus. Number four, when you're in your head, they're thinking. But that's okay. That's, that's where experience and, you know, doing it more, but that's, that's kind of the start of where I see people and they don't have a purpose. Like what are you trying to do? You're there? Are you there just to talk? Is that, what did I ask you guys before we went live? What's the intention right here. I do that for two reasons. One for myself. Who am I with? Where am I going? I mean, I haven't talked to you guys a lot. I mean, we don't even know each other. Right. But we're in the tribe of cool people. What I'm saying, having that intention and what is it? I want to have my audience [00:13:00] take away from this and letting that go, because I can not be responsible if you take away whatever you take away, but at least I can have a vision that I'd want you to. Ooh, I got this set of it, or I got inspiration out of it. And if you, if I went flat for you, it could be your fault or my fault, but I'm going to really own it that, okay. I'm going to keep growing. I take feedback.
[00:13:21] CORY: Yes. So from a personality perspective, right? Like my personality is more. Low key in, I remember at one point, like it was hard to hit the record button for when we started this podcast, even though we've done it, it's always been on video because I believe in the video and talking, so it was hard to hit the button to record right away. And, and the conversations, I, I like to think we're better than we used to be, uh, at episode zero to episode like two 60 plus or whatever we're at now, but how do you truly get. The person to get over that fear and to really just make [00:14:00] that light bulb moment when all of a sudden everything clicks.
[00:14:05] LISA: That's great. Well, you just said it right there. What did you, what did you feel when you looked at yourself on the replays? What did you see when you saw yourself in the queue?
[00:14:13] CORY: Someone that was awful.
[00:14:16] LISA: Right
[00:14:17] RON: I have a story, like literally I was, I was editing our show and I kept playing one soundbite of me talking over and over again. And my wife was sitting next to me and she goes, what are you doing? I can't get it to sound like me. Like, what is that? Like, I don't sound like that. She goes, you absolutely sound like that Stop doing that oh my gosh. Like that's awful.
[00:14:38] LISA: It's true. I said I've been doing makeup for over 30 years and I would do this full on makeup. You know, I was really, really good at it. I still do makeup too, but I would do this full-on thing, you know, teaching them step-by-step beautiful stuff, working on what they wanted. That just what I wanted. And I had, especially women I'd hand them a mirror and I go, so just one question, just tell [00:15:00] me, what do you see when you look in the mirror right now? Cause you can do that. She was feeling good. The last 30 minutes, you know, she's feeling, oh, all this stuff that we're giving the mirror. I said, what do you feel when you, what do you see? One question. What do you see me looking at me? 99% would see the flaw. They go, oh, I go, what, what? And she goes, well, you know, I feel like I'm missing that. I go, what do you like about right now? Oh, I like this and this. So we're so quick to find a flaw. Number one, number two, I love that your wife said it's like my brother and my dad, you know? Oh, when they, you know, when my, my dad was like, oh yeah, they're just different. You sound just like dad, your voice is exactly. Like dad. So we have to get over it. You really do have to have a pro, a coach or director pointed out, not just your wife and well-meaning friends. That's one thing you're going. Yeah, you are. But she can't really teach you how to. Even better at it. You know what I mean? Cause that's where people screw up. They start following or they'll get friends and go, you guys were so great on your challenge and your videos were so good. And I'm like, oh my God, they [00:16:00] suck on a camera. Can somebody please tell them something? But they can't, they're trying to be supportive. Let's just be supportive.
[00:16:10] CORY: I just want to circle back to that before my question, but have a probe point out the good stuff is kind of like my takeaway from that. And Ron and I talk about having a coach, if you, especially, if you plan to coach anybody, like you should have a coach, but, but I want to circle back. Now, you, you walked us through a little bit of, of the experience you've had and what led you to Pedro Adao and the challenge. And so in hindsight, right? Hindsight hacking, we're all about hacking your hindsight to give our listeners better forsight. And I want to ask about these. Last 18 months and how, how you found the niche of helping people on camera on social media specifically, right? Like that's, you know, you can help anybody on camera, whether it be for a movie for stage, but you, you really seem to found this niche of social media. And so in hindsight, What kind [00:17:00] of like learnings have you got from really niching down into that and why that, that segment?
[00:17:05] LISA: Yeah, that's a, that's a great question. And what's interesting Cory is that yesterday, someone asked me that question about who do I serve? And I realized it's two, two types. You know, there's two types of people which are all the same in a way, but one type is someone that just has been stalling. They're waiting they're on social media. They're in Pedro's group. In fact, Petros group kind of started me really fine tuning it even more before Pedro's thing. I was doing more corporate, not corporate, but just business referrals, all on the ground stuff. A woman that owned a company, I do accent all these different types of people that just had to get better on their presentation skills. But then when I got up this whole, especially during COVID and all. When I started watching people in these challenges, what happened is that I started to see, oh my gosh, they could use some help. They could use some help. The two types of people I could see that they were in challenges and they were asked to go live, share what you got out of it. You're seeing [00:18:00] that all over the place. Right? I mean, I could see that they could use some help on voice techniques and energy to. And then what I saw is that they were teaching all these people, do these funnels, get your funnel out and get on click funnels, get on Kartra. There were trying to copy gurus. They were trying to copy people, but then when they do. I go, you know, you could spend all, you want you guys with videos and Kartra and click funnels and all this, but if that video sucks and see, I, at that time, it was more about not trying to get editors like you guys, anybody can put all these editors together and be roles and spend all this money. I, I really am like the organic way. Let's just get you on this camera. Right now that's it, no editing, no nothing. You just pop. How about that? How about them apples. And so which is just good. And now of course, I like adding little now I'm teaching more stuff and the second person is a person like myself. I'm not shy. I've been speaking my whole life. You know, I've been doing it all kinds of stuff, but I could see that, oh, there's people like me that going, Hey, what am I going to do with this? I gotta, I need some more [00:19:00] direction. I want some more feedback with us. So th those are who I, I really serve, but it's, it always expands. It's not. And especially yesterday with the shutdown of Facebook, I flipped over to LinkedIn real quick. Right. And I'm never even over there, but I have a thousand connections. I don't know when I did that five years ago. So there's people in business and they're now needing to use more videos so, that's that's happening.
[00:19:23] RON: And I'm sure there's people listening right now that are like, oh my gosh, what's she involved with? Like, what are you doing now? How can people get involved with you? Like what, what is it that you have currently going?
[00:19:33] LISA: Oh, thank you. That's so cool. Well, you know, my thing is if you want to get in touch with me, come, come over to the group, the come alive on camera tribe at Facebook, you can DM me personally. On Facebook, you can set up a time to talk. I can Chat I can I love taking a look at your stuff, giving you some feedback on it. What are you, what are you doing right now? But I'm going on a call after this and she's been watching me for a long time. I've been watching her and she's like, can I just talk to you? And I'm like, absolutely. [00:20:00] Because my thing is, is I don't want to, we're not trying to throw people into modules and stuff, how I'm different is I actually do work with you. Like, how are you sounding? Let's try this. Let's try that. Give you feedback on it. Not these conceptual ideas on how do you do video by reading it? No, let's like my dad was an ice skater and she grew up with Olympic skaters. You don't learn a triple axle unless somebody is with you going, let's fix it. Let's do that. So I have, and I'm fun. I want people to have fun. It's a depressed time right now for a lot of people on the planet. There's a lot of shutdowns, a lot of you know, stuff. I don't even get me going on freedom, but I mean, people need like cheerleaders, but, but not just to, not to just say, oh, everything you're doing is so good. No, let's come up with some new ways of the bottom line is what's the character of you like what's the character of Cory of Ron. And who is he? How much? How much more can we pull out of who's Lisa? Let's pull it out so we can get with people. Cause exaggeration and passion is missing a lot. You know, and you can only edit so [00:21:00] much like that after a while editing is great, but then that person gets on a live video. They're not very good on the interview of course they had, you know, that Ron and Corey, you know, editing all their shit to look perfect. Let's also be able to do both people. We need both.
[00:21:13] CORY: So Ron and I, we Like we've got, I don't know, a couple of sales pages and stuff like that. And the videos were when we first launched it, it's like we just went on zoom and hit record and we didn't edit it at all. And we put that up live first and then, you know, it was like six months later before we officially went, actually made any edits and added a little music to add a little energy to it. Different, you know, cuts of it as my final question today. I'd love to hear one more time. How you push people to be that authentic person and how to be that genuine person, how you push them to just go and hit the button, like just like start first. Right. And then you tweak from there because I, you know, like as an ice skater, you can't, [00:22:00] you can't fix anything if they don't ever put the skates on. Right. How do you get people to be that authentic? Themselves. How do you get them to like, cause you need them to go and hit the button and it record. So then you can start tweaking to improve. Right? Cause I think that's so many people are either want to be perfect and they never hit record until they're perfect. And then they'll never perfect because they'll never hit record. And then other people, they want to be authentic. Right. So then they don't get training. They don't have the energy, they mumble, whatever it might be like, I'm guilty of all those things. And so like how do you really push people to. Get that middle ground and hit, hit the start button and then it start tweaking to get better.
[00:22:38] LISA: Well, that, that is just a great five-part question. see how it's overwhelming. I know I can, I can pass the test. How do I get them? You know what I do to answer all that, that you just said, I really talk about what's their enemies and what's their allies. I mean, what's the [00:23:00] stuff that's getting in their way, you know, it's resistance. It's this resistance. That is all what you just said in your. Judgment. Is it good enough? Am I good enough? Is it good enough? Or there's a person that thinks it's good and it's not. I knowone friend, oh my God. I'm not going to make fun of her. She's got a heavy accent. She was also talking like this. She mumbles all the time. I'm like, God, where you speak up? She goes, no, it's good. I go, no, it's not good. You're mumbling. No one knows what you're saying. She goes yea but that. I'm like, oh, So, so it really is about getting them to have fun, but also their allies really is that you can just have some blind faith here. This is a game. This is all a practice. What we're doing right now is a rehearsal period. We're not on CBS right now at prime time had seven for the academy awards. And even that you can see these actors and I've been around celebrities forever. They don't know what the hell they're doing. Luckily they have, you can see deer in the headlight, reading the script. Those, but so any w who do they hire to add live to come on and just, let's be [00:24:00] fun, but it's not easy to do that alone. You have to have the practice to answer your question. What gets them to go out to me? Is that, who are you serving? Who are you helping for getting. What about them? What do they need? We will work on your psychology later. Who do you who you trying to help here. If you're trying to help them, then don't be a taker. Be a giver, give something out. Okay. They don't like it. Screw it. Do it again. And my thing is, if you want to get engagement, You've got to be engaging. You've got to be engaging. Like my engagement's down. How are we engaging? Meaning how many times have I asked you guys a question? How many times if I asked you or given you feedback, people are selfish. That's where they're not good to communicate. You know why Tony Robbins is bad. He's a giver and he gets everybody. If you're alive with him, you do massages. And the thing you dance around, the better you connect with everyone.
[00:24:50] Brendan Brushard should go to his event. Same thing, connection. So when this whole shutdown came, we got to be able to ask questions and interact. If you can do that, you're going to make a lot of [00:25:00] money and you got people loving you.
[00:25:02] RON: Absolutely. And I know there's people out there they're like, I need Lisa in my life. Where can they connect with you? How can they get involved?
[00:25:09] LISA: Well, there's two ways when you can go to come alive on camera.com. Now that's a funnel that will say, Hey, we have something coming up, put your email in. You'll get on our email list. That's one, two you can just come over to Facebook. It's so easy. Just Google Lisa Monette and the come alive on camera tribe. I put a new name on it. I put come alive on camera tribe equals successful speaking just for the search engines. You know, they want to drop these little names, right?
[00:25:38] CORY: Well, as long as they're doing the whole, a great Facebook shut down of 2021, then everybody can head on over there. Again. Uh, Lisa, it's been a blast. I love your energy. Thank you for sharing it with us today. And I can't wait to chat soon.
[00:25:53] LISA: I have Cory, you know, your voice. It's just, it's it's lovely. We just kind of put a little fire into you and what [00:26:00] make it happen? Talk to Ron's wife. She'll tell you what the story is. You guys have great. Thanks so much from Las Vegas take care.
[00:26:11] CORY: All right, Ron, I don't know if we did a good enough job, a good enough job. Keeping that energy as high as Lisa, because she is a ball of fire there.
[00:26:21] RON: And you know what? There was so much I got from that and we could have got me on for sure. I have like four topics, but I'm going to hit two of them. Two of them, one expand your thinking. I thought that was huge. Right? Don't don't get caught up in the minutia of your hat. Looks good. Are your glasses like that? Or your shirt? Just, just do it. And then don't judge. Don't judge yourself. Just put it out there and get better as you go.
[00:26:47] CORY: Yeah. Judgment free zone. When you look in the mirror, that's what we all need to do. Um, but you know, this kind of that at the end there, one of my favorite things is we're all in the. I don't care what you're doing. [00:27:00] It's just a rehearsal. Have fun doing it. Enjoy the reason for doing, like, if you don't enjoy going live, figure out how to, if you're doing it for your business, right? Cause you enjoy your business. If your business needs some live video, then figure out a way to be, to enjoy it. And it, cause if you'd know your who, and you know what they need, then it's a disservice to them. And you've been talking about that for years. It's a disservice to them. If you don't get, just go out and do it, but then the final piece and what Lisa brings to the table is you've need to have a coach or someone help you get better at it.
[00:27:36] Right.
[00:27:36] RON: That was my fourth point, but get a pro be you
[00:27:39] CORY: get a pro. All right, everybody. Thanks so much. And we'll see you on the next episode.
